Ward Off the issues in a heating boiler problem
The gas boiler in your home is generally ignored in the summertime when warmth is plentiful, but if it does suddenly stop working, you may be stuck with measly kettle fulls of hot water and chilly cold showers everyday. It is strange though that the central heating system is never considered to be an important piece of equipment until it stops working. Suddenly it becomes a very important and rather expensive piece of essential equipment.
You don’t need to save money for repairing your heating boiler if you stay in a rented home, that will be done by your landlord, check that they have landlords central heating system cover. But if you own your home, a little money kept aside every month as an emergency fund will come in handy in such a boiler failure if you do not decide to invest in gas boiler insurance.
It is advisable to buy a new model rather than getting your ten year old boiler repaired, this will cut down the fuel costs too in future years. The type of boiler that you should buy depends on your family size and the available space at your home, the existing gas boiler also affects your choice. The most common type is the combi central heating boiler, it is perfect for small homes and for people who want hot water quickly. A combi boiler draws water and heats it through the mains, doing away with the need for a storage tank. With such a combi gas boiler, a hot shower is instantly available; however if another hot outlet is opened, your share of warm water will quickly run out and you shower could be a cold one.
A sealed boiler system has a storage tank, often in ventilated closet, and allows a big family to simultaneously use the hot tap and take showers without diluting hot water or reducing the water pressure. Such a sealed system is convenient to install and also saves on space. But if hot water is used too quickly it would run out because the storage tank hot water would be depleted and is replenishment is not instant.
However the central heating system which is most commonly used in older homes is the open vent central heating system, it occupies huge space and consists of a storage cylinder and two water tanks. This type of gas boiler is similar to the sealed system in that it lets hot water to come out of more than one tap at the same time, but it also takes time to warm up and has wavering water pressure.
The fifth type is a back heating boiler which is bulkier, but can deliver hot water to several outlets under good pressure. Traditionally back boilers are stored in a chimney breast, but unless you already have one, it’s probably not worth switching to one. However repairing an existing back boiler or replacing it with a new back central heating boiler can result in better efficiency and reduced long term costs.
It is costly to repair a boiler which ever type your home has. So it is important to get a central heating insurance so that your costs are covered even if something goes wrong with your system. A central heating system insurance policy including coverage for yearly gas boiler inspections and emergency servicing for repairs will go a long way in reducing your annual heating boiler maintenance expenses.
