Prepare for the wintertime and enhance your gas central heating

An efficient gas central heating system is the best way to get rid of the chill of the winter nights. If you have an efficient and safe gas central heating system installed you will enjoy the benefits of a comfortable and snug home.

In general, two types of central heating systems exist, one that’s pumped and the other with a vented system; but a gas boiler, heating radiator and pipework make up the elements of most heaters.

The most common out of these is probably the pumped system, these consist of a feed and expansion tank, the hot water tank works as the centre storage, and then heats the central heating radiators via the pipes. The tank has enough storage space to allow for any water expansion that might result from the heating.

The vented system on the other hand is a sealed system where there is no core heating. It is basically a closed system, and for this reason, there is no need of water tanks. It works well in colder countries like Norther Europe because the pipes are less likely to freeze up in this system, in addition to that there are less chances of leaking and there are no airlocks too.

So the question now is, why do we need central heating? Is it really necessary?.

The simple answer is that it will allow you to heat your entire house or office quickly without compromising the air quality. Before the central heating system came into existence, other heaters like electric and storage heaters were used to keep the house warm or even coal fires. However these heaters had a odour around them and they also affected the surrounding air, making it less pleasant as an interior environment.

The central heating systems are free from all these drawbacks but they need regular maintenance to keep them operating reliably. Spring and summertime often sees these systems shut down and completely ignored, only to be abruptly switched on when a chilly wind blows in. Instead, as the weather begins to change, you should use it by degrees in order to spot any problems and give you time to call an heating engineer before winter.

You should also keep in mind that most houses central heating systems can let air or dirt into it, therefore they need periodic draining. The best way to do it is to keep a bucket under the valve, and slowly open it to allow all the water to come out; before closing the valve, ensure that no more water is coming out.
