Overlook boiler maintenance cover at your own peril
Nowadays, there is almost nothing that can’t be covered by protection, from the health of dogs to safety of pda’s. There are those policies that are obviously more important than others and some are required by law such as car insurance. Lenders will also require borrowers to take out home insurance if they have a mortgage to cover the cost of replacement and rebuilding. These types of insurance cover protect the policyholder from losses that could ruin their lives.
The next step down would be things like central heating insurance, which can be found with companies such as British Gas and Hometeam (npower). The central heating system policy is obviously not as important as your home insurance, but its important nonetheless as fixing it can cost you a fortune if you have an unexpected heating boiler or heating failure. A broken down central heating system is highly troublesome, particularly in cold weather, and waiting for someone to come and fix it can be utter misery. If there is a problem or if your system has not been properly maintained there are chances of producing potentially dangerous carbon monoxide, due to a fault in the central heating system.
A wide choice of plans exist in the market for both heating boiler servicing and central heating repair. Basic plans will cover annual servicing, safety checks and other minimum requirements. However, the likes of spare parts and repair work are not included. You can upgrade to a more comprehensive plan that includes spare parts and repairs by paying a small amount on a monthly basis, however remember you don’t need to pay anything if your central heating system is still in the warranty period. This additional money will be a worthwhile payment especially if the central heating boiler is approaching its end of life. At this point, customers will have to decide if they just need their gas boiler covered, or if they also want to have the rest of the central heating system covered such as the radiators, heating controls and so on.
Watch out for small print before you choose a new policy as there may be limitations or exemptions written into the plan. Some insurance policies allow only limited call outs in a year and fix a maximum amount to be used on fixes during a particular time period. Ensure that you have all your heating needs insured at a reasonable premium, just as you would choose a life insurance or car insurance package.
