Have you got central heating yet
Central heating is the best way of getting ready for when wintertime approaches with its longer nights and freezing temperatures. There’s nothing cosier than a warm room while a blizzard rages outside, and this warmth is best provided by a sturdy and efficient central heating system.
A gas central heating system is basically a heating boiler with pipes carrying the heat to central heating radiators placed in all the rooms; these systems can be of the pumped or vented type.
Pumped systems are more common, they have a feed and an expansion tank, another hot water tank is the core of the system, it stores hot water as it heats up and then uses the pipes to transfer heat to the radiators. Provision is made for water to be filled in the expansion tank tank as well as for expansion of the heated water.
The other type of gas central heating consists of a sealed system, where as there is no expansion tank to the heating system. It’s basically closed, so there is really no need for any water tanks and the space they require. Chief advantages of vented systems are: there is no risk of leaking water tank; major problems like air locks are also not associated with such systems; furthermore, they are specifically useful in cold countries because there is no risk of freezing pipes.
So the question now is, why do we need gas central heating? Is it really needed?.
One of the greatest advantages of central heating is its capability to increase the temperature inside a home or office very quickly without creating any noticeable effects in the air immediately surrounding you. Before the gas central heating system came into existence, other heaters like electric and storage heaters were used to keep the house warm or even coal fires. These primitive heaters invariably resulted in a harsh, sticky and smelly atmosphere.
With gas central heating systems, these problems are not encountered, but your gas central heating system will require regular maintenance. Many families only use their gas central heating during the cold months and leave them entirely unused during the summertime, this is a common error. Instead, as the weather begins to change, you should use it by degrees in order to spot any problems and give you time to call an heating engineer before wintertime.
It is also important to remember that most household central heating systems allow in dust or air, thus requiring regular drainage. You can achieve this most effectively by putting a a bucket under the valve and opening it carefully to release the water, but you need to take extra care to prevent any additional water from entering the system.
