Care for the boiler with a gas boiler care plan
Keeping our homes warm from May to September is not a problem but unless you have the habit of taking cold showers and boiling the kettle after you bathe, you could be left without help or hope of recovery if your boiler breaks down. It is strange though that the heating boiler is never considered to be an important piece of equipment until it stops working. Right away it comes to the front of the agenda with a recognition of its importance and the costly nature of its maintenance.
For those of you who are renting, of course you don’t have to worry about repairs and maintenance as the responsibility lies with your landlord and they probably will have landlords central heating system cover. But if you’re a homeowner, you may want to think about putting a little aside to cover the costs should anything go wrong.
It is advisable to buy a new model rather than getting your ten year old boiler repaired, this will cut down the fuel costs too in future years. Depending on the amount of space in your home, the size of your family and the existing heating boiler, you would have a choice as to the type of boiler to go for. If you have a small home with few people and do not want to wait for hot water then a combi heating boiler is your best option. This heating boiler heats up the water through the mains as used and therefore a storage tank is not required. Although it is a great luxury to have on demand hot water at the turn of a tap take care if you’re in the shower when someone runs the hot tap!, the system will have a limited hot water heating capacity.
Another type of boiler is the sealed system heating boiler which has a hot water storage tank and is usually used for large families, as it allows several showers and hot water taps to work at the same time. It is quite easy to install the system central heating system and it can also easily fit into your home. But if hot water is used too quickly it would run out because the storage tank hot water would be depleted and is replenishment is not instant.
The most space is taken , two water tanks in the attic and a storage cylinder in the upstairs airing cupboard, by a open vent central heating boiler normally found in older houses. An open vent boiler provides plenty of hot water that can be used simultaneously, just like a sealed heating boiler, but again here too heating takes time and the pressure is not as good as with a combi heating boiler.
Lastly, what’s known as a back boiler gives simultaneous access to hot water from several outlets with sustained pressure; but it may need a large area for installation. Typically the chimney breast was used to store the back boilers, however consider switching to a new one only if you are already using an old one as the installation may be a challenge if the house was not designed for this initially. However repairing an existing back central heating boiler or replacing it with a new back gas boiler can result in better efficiency and reduced long term costs.
It is costly to repair a boiler which ever type your home has. That is why it is important to get heating insurance so you can be confident that any costs will be taken care of if something breaks down, costs which cover labour and spare parts for your central heating boiler. Buy a good boiler breakdown policy which not only covers the labour, repair costs and also provides annual inspections with no call out charge.
